Mesosphere è stata fondata nel 2013 dai data architects di Airbnb e Twitter e dal co-creatore di Apache Mesos. DC/OS (Data Center Operating System) è un software open source, sviluppato da Mesosphere, per la gestione dei sistemi distribuiti. DC/OS sta per DataCenter Operating System ed è basato sul cluster manager open source Apache Mesos. DC/OS mette a disposizione tutte le funzioni del cluster manager attraverso un’interfaccia centrale e amplia Mesos attraverso varie componenti in un’infrastruttura più vasta, la quale facilita la gestione delle applicazioni sui sistemi distribuiti, nel cloud o negli ambienti on-premises
